So I'm gonna say some things I wish I knew before, but keep in mind I had periareolar and I live in Belgium so I'm just speaking from my experience. 1. All the youtube videos I watched had these reveals and so I thought I only got to see my chest a couple weeks post op but when I was in the awakening room just after surgery and I woke up my first instinct was to look at my nipples and I just did it. there were no bandages or anything so I could see everything. I only had to put two dressings and a binder on when I was in the recovery room with my mom. And even after that I was able to see my chest everyday because a nurse came to take care of it. 2. The first few days nothing was swollen, red or bruised but after a week the skin below my nipple started looking red and it hurt. I thought it was infected so we called the surgeon and I was immediately put on antibiotics and in the evening we went to see the surgeon but there were no signs of infection. He explained to me that they not only take away the mammary gland but also a ligament and that's what was causing the pain. He said that that was totaly normal. 3. Don't expect everything to look right the moment after your surgery. If you're like me you panic about every little change but the recovery takes up to three months, so before that don't worry to much about how it looks. 4. It's okay to take your binder off sometimes (if your surgeon told you so). The doctors did tell me that but I wanted to be safe and kept it on for two weeks before taking it off. Just take it off for like an hour and breathe. 5. This one won't be for everyone but it happened to me so it might happen to you too. My surgeon told me at first that I had to wear the binder for six weeks and I also couldn't exercise for that period of time. But after my consultation after my surgery he said that it was healing pretty well and said that I only had to wear it for four weeks :). I'm just saying this in case you like me are really not looking forward to wearing that thing for so long (mind you I had surgery in the summer, so not the ideal time to wear two layers). 6. Speaking of summer, don't be dumb like me and have your surgery in the summer when you have exams. I had surgery June sixth and my first exam was June seventh. I was able to post pone my exam but I still had to take an exam on June ninth. This put a lot of stress on me because I wasn't able to study much and I could barely get to my school. 7. If you had drains like me I'm just going to say it but that shit hurts so much to take out. I read somewhere that it feels tingly. It doesn't. I hurts so so much, but I found a trick to lesser the pain. Take a deep breath and when the nurse pulls it out you blow on the top of your hand. Also I thought the piece of drain that was in me was small but it's about as large as where it is put in you to your nipple. I don't want to scare anyone but I think it's better to know the truth than sitting in pain and complete shock after the first one and having to do a second. 8. Lastly as I said I am pretty paranoid so I didn't move my arms for one bit during the healing process. So when I could move my arms above my shoulders again I wasn't able to because they hadn't moved for a month. You can't move your arms a lot but please do it a little bit, just make sure they don't go above your shoulders and you should be fine. Also when you can start moving a bit just take it slow like Cameron said in the video like for example don't start running right away but start with walking.

You don't need to be a doctor to know why this is happening. You are a female of reproductive age (regardless of personal identification - I do understand you are a transman, but you are also still a female) - so you are getting a period. Your body is working properly in spite of all of the interventions. This is a sign of health, vitality, and fertility in females and is nothing to be ashamed of. You do not need to feel embarrassed or disgusted about going through such a natural process. Would you want any other female to feel that way? I sure hope not. I just hate that in the 21st century there are still females who stop themselves from living due to period shame/dysphoria. It sucks! The good news is that if you stay the course, you can get used to having a period. I got my cycle very young and was not comfortable with it at first. But there were no hormones then, so no stopping it. Over the course of a few years and good support, I accepted and adapted to the change. I can only imagine how artificially stopping it would have just delayed or frustrated that acclimation/adaptation process. I hope you give yourself the chance to finally accept this part of being a female. Outside of medical conditions that cause extreme pain in some individuals (e.g. endometriosis), it's actually not that bad. You shouldn't have to freak out like this each month over normal biological processes.

hey guys, other than this video, do you have any advices for people who didn't start their transition/hormones therapy (yet)? i'm ftm and i'm really trying to fit in, but it's sometimes problematic. thanks god i've got a supportive adult, but i'm not sure how can i get hormones therapy. should you like go to a special therapist, get a document or something? i want to start testosterone shots, because i honestly do not feel comfortable with the current body features i have. thank you in advance and good luck with whatever choices you will make. and yeah, thank you man, even though some of your advices do not apply to me, your video really gives the support some people need. good luck for u too
